Ars Technica - It's Much Worse Than You Thought.

This is the first time I can remember a game costing 60$, but on top of that, it has less functionality (no console? come on, you're breaking my balls now). I was just wondering how everyone feels about it. Honestly, I'm thinking that I might skip over it. I don't have enough friends with a PS3 to warrant grabbing that version, and I was looking forward to playing with friends or random matches on the PC since the community seems to be a little stronger there, but the lacking features kind of destroyed everything that gives PC games that feeling. When people got tired of playing Half Life Deathmatch back in the day, that's when you started getting really creative things like Day of Defeat, Counter Strike, TFC, etc. Sheesh, the reason they don't have to make too many flight sims to keep those communities happy is because they're constantly churning out new content years after release. This seems like a huge step backwards or one of those "F U" moments where what once was a PC franchise has finally switched over and decided to put its original community on the back burner in favor of making more profits from the console side.

*Edit - Oh dear. D2D isn't going to be selling this either now.*

This is basically the 360 version with a keyboard and mouse. I loved the 360 version of CoD4, and was going to (still will, actually) get MW2 for it, but to be honest, I think this whole thing's pretty funny. Sucks for PC gamers but they've had something like this coming for a long time.

I absolutely cannot wait for this. The 360 version's banned group private chat (Because it allows ghosting) meaning the banter will come back! When group private chat came out, everyone stopped talking to eachother, normally you'd chat with your team mates, help eachother out, or just give eachother abuse for shits and giggles. People cried about it, but anyone with a sense of humour had the times of their lives.

So this is what Kiwi got out of what you said.

A: You're a communist who thinks that the way games work should be the same on all platforms.

And

B: You enjoy having options taking away from you and fall for the idea of it being a feature.

This is simply them getting greedy, seeing all the mods and such as revenue lost from DLC flying out the window. Now they can just nickel and dime you. Want to change your FOV? This $10 DLC includes the update that lets you do that. Ranked Playlist with no perks!*

*DLC required.

Kiwi heard somewhere that they did it to "prevent piracy." Bull, if anything, this is going to make it worse. Steam is a pretty good anti-piracy measure as is, and from what Kiwi sees, it's going to involve Steam in the PC version.

And on the subject of destroying all PC gamers hold dear:

Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.

HOW ELSE ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO CONTROL IT?! THATS NOT A FEATURE! :'(

With the 360 controller of course! So that people used to it can be right at home!

Kiwi would say the fact that another company is already banking on this working and following suit before the game even comes out to be very, very worrying.

Actually, that is worrying. Modern Warfare 2 was sort of a sacrifice to piss off the PC elitist hard-on crowd, since I was after the 360 one anyway (Which it's looking like I'll get a day before most other people smile.gif)

Hope things don't get out of hand, particularly with modding tools. Cracks ahoy!

Things are getting super messy now: Modder strikes back at Infinity Ward.

I'm definitely picking up the PS3 version at this point. I shouldn't have to worry about punkbuster or random framerate drops at least.

Just wondering, but why should I care about any of this crap?

Not only do I have no idea what's going on, but i'm not even sure what game this is about.

If you're not a PC gamer, then no you shouldn't.

If you are, it's a major developer using a very popular franchise to take away what is unique about PC gaming so they can make more money with DLC and making playing online worse.

The main reason a person would buy a PC game instead of the console version is normally to take advantage of those features, such as modding or making your own server for people to play in. If PC players wanted a console game, they'd buy a console game.

I am not much of a PC OR Console gamer anymore, considering the only game system I use much anymore is Nintendo DS. And my P.C is too terrible to play modern games.

You should check out [URL=http://www.torchlightgame.com/Torchlight[/URL] smile.gif. I hear that runs on anything (there's even a netbook mode) and the gameplay sounds right up your alley, I think. It's from the dudes that made the first Diablo, and it's 20$.

Yeah, I heard about Torchlight...and I doubt my computer could even run that, but i'd get it if I could. The game looks great by the way, and the price is right.

It has a netbook mode and low requirements. It might be lower end than Warcraft 3, so if you can run that at all, you should be able to run Torchlight.

Operating System: Windows 2000 or later
Processor: 800 MHz or better
Memory: 512 MB RAM or more
Hard Drive: 400 MB free hard drive space
Video Card (graphics): DirectX-compatible video card with at least 64MB of addressable memory (such as an ATI Radeon 7200, NVIDIA GeForce 2, or Intel GMA 950)
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
Peripheral hardware: Keyboard and mouse

Yeah, but the problem is that listed requirements can sometimes be misleading, at least to have the game running decently on your computer. The specs you listed DO seem low enough, assuming that the game will run okay at them, because otherwise... sad.gif
